It was a pleasure to stay at the Magnolia Inn in the Casco Viejo section of Panama City for five nights. The friendly welcome from the front desk set the tone for our visit. Each staff member offered invaluable help in selecting sites and restaurants as well as in arranging for drivers and guides. Our penthouse room was immaculate and well appointed with refrig, etc. The personal involvement of the owner, Mr. Reggie Flagg, was well reflected in the quality of this hotel. We hope that we can return sometime.
My partner and I stayed at the Magnolia for 4 nights on our recent visit. We had the penthouse room that had fabulous views of both the Panama Canal as well as the old city and the Panama skyline. The penthouse rooms have lots of windows and are very spacious with a mini kitchen with a bar with stools that offers views of the Panama Canal. The kitchen is equipped with coffeemaker, tea kettle, glasses, spoons, refrigerator with complimentary bottles of water. The bath is very nice. The only drawback to this hotel is that there is no elevator and you have to climb 4 flights of very steep stairs to the penthouse, but once there it is a wonderful haven with a huge room...basically an efficiency apartment!!! I understand that because of the historical signifance nature of the building, being designated a UNESCO heritage site that the hotel cannot modify the building and therefore, the reason for no elevator. Nevertheless, this is a wonderful hotel with everyone at the front desk very accommodating to all of our needs. Lots of good restaurants located nearby.
This renovated old building has really nice common rooms and our room with private bath was spacious, clean and nicely decorated. The location is perfect for exploring Casco Viejo, the fish market, and cinta costera area. The staff were all helpful and friendly.
