I was pretty much a regular for all three days in Bandipur. First was swayed away by chilli momos (best veggie momos I had in Nepal). And then by the Baji set - every little piece on it was a masterpiece. But my absolute favourite had to be the black Dahl pancake (if you are lucky you can ask the owner the make his version with a bit of cheese on it)
Fortunately by accident I came across this restaurant that is off the Main Street at the top slightly to,the right but hidden and easily missed. As a consequence it was not full but do not let this put you off as you will have missed an authentic experience. We had the signature dish of the restaurant which was Newari festival dish which gives the restaurant it's name. The owner and his wife Nanu were wonderful hosts we ideally finished the night with their Alia.
As a traveller and food-lover, I’ve eaten in countless restaurants. However, none have ever even compared to Nanu’s (head chef) Samar Baji restaurant. It truly is a hidden gem tucked in the gorgeous village of Bandipur. I spent a few days volunteering and learning to cook Nanu’s well-known Nawaari traditional meals and in all that time I was continuesly impressed by her obvious passion for cooking, professionalism, and overall joy to be teaching and serving others. Nanu is not only a brilliant master chef, she is also an artist, teacher, and overall, friend. You will not regret eating here.
